Joey is a 4yr old yorkie x poodle (with possibly a bit of terrier), he
is castrated, fully vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Joey came to us as an emergency after we learnt he was booked in to be put to sleep that same day, his owner was suffering with some mental health issues and the family member he was staying with could no longer cope with him. Unfortunately Joey had bitten both the original owner and family member over the previous 4yrs of owning him and they just didn't know how to handle him properly.
When Joey arrived he was pretty worried, scared and shut down for a week or two, he would seek attention and jump on your lap for a fuss but then snap when it was too much. He was quite a confused boy.
His fosterers were asked to take a hands off approach with him and almost ignore he was there, taking all the pressure off this little lad. He gradually started to seek out attention more and more and relax into his foster home with several other small dogs which he has been really good with. Over the past couple of weeks he has started to instigate play with the other dogs and really starting to blossom.
Joey now seeks out fuss and interaction much more but he has a quick fuss, a few strokes then its hands off on our terms, not his. This builds a trust with him that he isn't going to be pushed out of his comfort zone and it's that relationship building that's absolutely key with dogs like him. He really will need a very special, very dog savvy home who won't rush him, try to over handle him or wants a lap dog or one that can be cuddled and petted all the time. He is a great little chap, full of fun, excitement, happiness and kisses now but it will be a special home that can help him take that forward into a happy life forever.
Joey loves his walks and walks nicely on the lead, he travels ok in
the car and was such a good boy with the groomers recently. He was scared at the vets and a bit snappy but overall a good boy for his recent vet work. He cannot live with cats at all and we obviously cannot home him with resident children nor where there are small children visiting frequently.
He needs a home with a nice secure garden, he can be the only dog in the home or can live with another friendly small neutered dog to help build his confidence further.
Being fostered in Swadlincote, Derbys but can be rehomed further afield subject to homecheck and adoption donation of £200
